THE UK’s huge vaccine success means Covid is no longer the leading cause of death – despite a rise in the number of confirmed Indian variant cases.
Office for National Statistics data shows Covid-19 was the third leading cause of death in both countries that month, accounting for 9.2 percent of all fatalities registered in England and 6.3 percent in Wales.
The leading cause of death in March was dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in England, accounting for 10.1% of all deaths registered that month.

A total of 132 confirmed and probable cases of the variant have now been found in the UK.
